“Yes you did,” said Arthur seriously, “you knew that I would not be able to live without the fuel I need to keep me going. And since you would be completely devastated if I wasted away to nothing, you sub consciously developed these links and the DVD player for my benefit.”
Grinning now he said, “But look. If you want to watch something else you just had to say. And by something else I mean Firefly. That’s the only other thing I’ll agree to watching this evening.”

"Oh absolutely." Merlin replied, deadpan "The whole world revolves around you, and my part especially, everything I do is entirely for you."
He had to keep the tone light and move on quickly or things would get ever so slightly awkward, because of course a lot of the time, that was actually the case - he wasn't quite that bad, especially because he often believed that Arthur needed taking down a peg or two, but he still did an awful lot with the other man in mind. Including putting up with his geeky taste in television, though he didn't mind too much.
"We watched Firefly two days ago," He pointed out "Let's give it a break and watch some Buffy."

He had a few retorts for Merlin’s first statement but decided not to say them for many reasons. One of them being that it was too close to the truth that he was desperately trying to avoid. Yes he was a Prince and yes Merlin was a commoner so it would be incredibly funny to point out that technically Merlin had to do everything for him because he was royalty. But not only did he not want to think about the responsibilities he was shirking back home or what his father was going to say if he ever found him…he didn’t want to think about how royal he actually was. He kept having the dreams and a…feeling that he’d had some of these conversations before but right now he didn’t want to think about that.
Instead he let the mock shock wave over him as he said, “Take a break?! You cant teak a break from Firefly! It’s not something you take a break from. It’s something you put on hold for a moment because the awesome is just too much.”
Putting the DVD’s back in his pocket he walked forwards at sat down in the seat in front of Merlin’s desk, folding his arms. “Now I don’t want to watch anything, You’ve upset me.”
Just to add to it all, he sniffed a little and doing his best pout and ‘love me I’m a puppy’ expression turned round to look at Merlin.

Resisting the urge to roll his eyes because it would ruin the apologetic expression he'd schooled his face into, Merlin looked as contrite as possible.
"Of course, that's what I meant, take a break to recover from the sheer amazingness so that we can better appreciate it when we watch it again." It was a wonder he managed to say it all with a straight face. It wasn't that he didn't like Firefly himself, actually he quite enjoyed it, but his enjoyment was a long way from Arthur's near-religious obsession, and he couldn't help but find it amusing. Much as he tried to be brave and noble and commanding when anybody else was looking, he still cheered like an excited five year old at a panto when Mal wins the duel in Shindig, still cried at the end of serenity. He didn't always seem it, but Arthur was a very complicated person.

“That’s better,” said Arthur getting to his feet and grinning, “That is showing firefly the respect it deserves. Honestly, do you really expect to get far in life Merlin if you don’t respect the awesome that is Joss Whedon. We could learn so much.
He was just about to suggest that they leave when his attention was caught by one of the many bits of paper scattered across the table. Curiosity getting the better of him he reached over and picked it up, scanning the names on the list. As he read down further his eyebrows rose higher and were in danger of disappearing into his hair. He looked up at Merlin and then back at the paper in front of him.
“Wow…I never realised just how many people were here.”

Merlin just shook his head. There was no point trying to hide any of his paperwork from Arthur, for one thing there wasn't really anything on most of it that he wouldn't tell Arthur if the man asked anyway, but mostly because even if he locked it in a drawer in a sealed envelope reading 'do not read under any circumstances', it would only make Arthur more interested. The best way to get him to not want to look at something was to pretend it was boring and unimportant, and even then he might check, just to make sure.
"Well you must have noticed," He replied with an amused smile "It's not like you don't spend a lot of time outside. It's a long time since it was just the four of us, you know."
