~The Basics~
Name: Merlin Emrys
Nicknames:
Gender: male
Age: 20
~The Miscellany~
Family: Hunith Emrys, Mother, Balinor Emrys, Absent father.
Canon: Arthurian Legend
~The Big Stuff~
Appearance: Merlin does not look threatening at all, he's scrawny, his hair is always a mess and he's got big ears. Plus there's that grin, dorky or cute depending on your perspective, either way he either looks like a total nerd or the nicest guy you could ever hope to meet, possibly both. Big blue eyes complete the totally harmless look. He often wears whatever he throws on in the morning, he's not a total scruff as he rather enjoys doing the laundry, but he still doesn't take much care in his appearance.
Personality: Looks are not really all that decieving when it comes to Merlin, he really is the nicest guy you could ever hope to meet. Other people almost always come first, and he always wants to think the best in people wherever he can - though don't get complacent, that doesn't mean he can't spot a bad guy, and while he has his clumsy idiot moments, he can actually be pretty intelligent. He's also bloody good at magic and not afraid to use it if it's needed. He's a terrible liar, fiercely loyal to his friends (especially Arthur) and has a tendency to say the wrong thing at the wrong time.
History: Merlin grewn up with his mother in a little village in Wales, it was the sort of out-of-the-way, rural place that made it sort of ok to grow up with a name like 'Merlin', because it wasn't so weird there.
Unfortunately, there was plenty more about him that was weird, and he didn't have a lot of friends growing up. He was ok with that, though, and still ended up being a nice, polite young man, and didn't even resent his absent father - that much.
He was still somewhat lonely though, and always had the sense of something more waiting for him - tapped into the mystical as he was, it was no surprise that he was one of the first mythlings to answer the call.
He just set off one day, knew it was time. Said goodbye to his mother, packed his bag with what books and supplies he thought he'd need and went walking. Somewhere along the way he met up with Arthur and Morgana, it wasn't exactly the smoothest meeting ever, in fact Arthur and Merlin almost instantly disliked each other, but somehow they stuck together and ended up in the Town.
Along with Gaston, once the two of them had gotten over their mutual dislike and actually made friends, they set up home, knowing that more would come, more like them - Merlin being one of those who embraced his identity from the very beginning.
As the years went by, Merlin and Arthur grew closer, and eventually he fell in love with the big blonde prat, which made for a somewhat rocky time when the other boy found out about it. Things have smoothed out now though, and they remain good friends. Merlin was the first to start teaching younger Mythlings, and founded the school.
