This probably looked incredibly odd without a partner, but it wasn't like anyone else around here was really going to help her with her fencing, now where they? Besides, considering her track record, fighting an invisible opponent was probably a far better option, seeing as she had a tendency of hurting people even when she didn't mean to. Athena couldn't help but roll her eyes at the thought. Honestly, if people couldn't keep up, why should they be angry with her for the occasional blinding?
Anyway, this whole flying solo thing at least meant that she would absolutely win. Perhaps that was part of why most kids had imaginary friends when Athena was flipping through her father's rather limited library; it soothed the ego. Mind you, most people would say that the very last thing Athena needed was a soothed ego, but those were the people who hadn't seen the sorts of things that happened when she was being beaten. It didn't usually work well for them if they ever discovered the consequences.
So her invisible adversary was quite possibly smarter than most real people, seeing as he or she was giving her just enough of a challenge before she found her victory. With a broad grin, she pulled off her mask...all right, so she supposed the triumph was sort of ridiculous when all she had beaten was the air, something that didn't have anything to bruise, much less an ego. It was a shame, really, that she was generally alone with this sort of thing.
But then she shrugged, brushing off the thought quite easily, actually. She supposed she had practiced enough for the day, and it wasn't as if she even needed anything resembling a sword to beat off any legitimate threat. She set down her foil with another smirk on her face. Hmm, what was she to do now...
